Blue Is High Victorious! Winterhaven Rejoices!

(Originally published in The Winterhaven Herald & Town Crier)

The rumors began swirling days ago. Travelers no longer whispered in hushed tones of the evil rising in the ruined keep. Rather, from the merchants in the Market Square to the lords in the Manor House, excitement grew as high as Valthrun’s Tower. The early reports from journeymen that Kalarel has been defeated have been confirmed. A ragtag band of adventurers calling themselves “Blue Is High” arrived yesterday evening at Wrafton’s Inn spinning tales of gelatinous cubes, statues coming to life, and the downfall of Kalarel. Their stories were as deep as their thirst, and nearly as difficult to quell.

Blue Is High can only be described as a fluid assemblage of adventurers, loosely connected by their desire to do what's right (or what's handsomely rewarded). They employ a fairly creative and effective strategy of rotating their members, apparently to “diversify their talents”. Ravenix took a gamble and wandered into the woods long ago, his whereabouts are still unknown. Drowler apparently suffers from exhaustion and is considering an early retirement. The wizard Falcon is off for a few months to study the mysteries of the arcane. Clandank and the young rogue Theren are ready for more after their first taste of adventure. Friar Jim and Heskan are on a temporary leave of absence at summer camp. Determinus, Determinus?

In desperate need of a leader, the party interviewed some strange Bard named Bojangles who happened to be singing at the Inn. Apparently he has the voice of an angel. (Or was it the choice of an angle?) Finally, an annoying short-statured Sorcerer begged to be included in the party to “bring more blasty blast” to the group.

Vermin Lurk "attempting" me to prevent the Rift from Opening

To all creatures big and nasty -

There is a relatively weak adventuring group that is trying to prevent me from desolating Winterhaven and creating a dark dominion. Luckly the often take breaks ... I think they are a union adventuring group ... so it doesn't slow me down from discovering my evil incantations. However, they are getting uncomfortably close. They have defeated Iron Tooth and several of my high-priests. I also sent and owl bear and left the rather nasty gelatenous cube that took residence after Sir Keegan went crazy, but the team narrowly dispatched them.

If you love evil and you love creating hell ... please come to the Keep on the Shadowfell and prevent this so-called adventurers from bumbling any further into the keep. Bring some of your hateful, vengeful, nasty friends too.

Kalarel...

An Open Letter to Kalarel

Dear Evil Priest Kalarel,

The day is near. Your foolish plot to open the rift to the Shadowfell will be foiled. Winterhaven shall know peace.

Be it by shadow, spell, or sword, your reign will end.

Signed,

Blue is High
